• January Update

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Last month I shared that I will not be announcing any delayed starts this school year until all students have consistent, dependable school bus transportation. As of late January, we still have two bus routes that do not have assigned bus drivers. Those routes are covered daily by drivers that first complete an AMSA route, and then begin the elementary runs. There are five drivers currently in training and as those drivers become licensed, they will be assigned to the open routes, or to fill routes of regular drivers that are not at work for the day. The earliest any of these new drivers will start is the end of February.

In the last several weeks three weather-related school decisions had to be made.  Many districts around us had two-hour delays on these days. In Marlborough, the Marlborough DPW updates me at night and early morning. They provide timely, accurate Marlborough street conditions. One morning some of our streets, and the schools parking lots and driveways needed additional treatment and that process would not be completed by school opening. It would have been a perfect morning for a delay, but school was cancelled for a full day. The other mornings the road conditions allowed for a regular school start.

If the buses are fully staffed by the end of February, I will update the community. Until that time most weather-related school decisions will have to be morning decisions with either a full day of school or no school being the only available options.

    Warmest Regards,

    Mary Murphy
