Day D

  • The 6th grade “under the stars” dance will be Friday, March 20th. Ask your homeroom teacher for a permission slip. You will need a signed permission slip and $5 to purchase a ticket during lunch on Tuesday, March 17th, Wednesday, March 18th, and Thursday, March 19th. If you have any questions, please ask your team’s student council representative or a student council advisor.

  • The Panther girls’ basketball team lost to Northboro Middle School by a score of 40-28 yesterday at Whitcomb; however, the Panthers’ defense held their opponent to only 10 points in the second half. The Panthers were led by Meghan Deneen, Elizabeth Johnson, and Mallory Farrell, who scored 10 points each. Rose King scored 8 points and Kyra Duane had 6 blocked shots. Great team effort girls. The next home game is tomorrow against Westborough Middle School.

  • The Whitcomb field hockey team played an excellent game against Trottier Middle School on Monday. Both teams scored in the first half. Ava Pascarelli got the rebound off a shot on goal. Victoria Villar then passed back to Ava who passed to Maggie Horn for the goal. The Panthers came back strong for the second half. Maggie Fagan was outstanding in Trottier’s defensive circle. Caitlyn Gray, Ilie Bender, and Emily Berger were also strong on offense. On defense, Keira Manning, Maria Reyes, and Clarissa Cruz Bolanos did a nice job. Sophie Berges did a nice job as goalkeeper making 3 saves in the game. The team’s last game will be Thursday at Melican Middle School.

  • The Boys Cross Country team finished their season yesterday by running against 60 boys from Oak Middle School of Shrewsbury. Grant Gamber won his first race with a time of 10:57, a personal best. Andrew Naim came in 6th place with a time of 11:30, another personal best. Great season boys!
  • The Girls Cross Country team continued their winning ways yesterday against Oak Middle School of Shrewsbury. Ella Hobin won the race in a personal best of 12:19.1. Coming in second was Alyssa Doucette with a time of 12:28.3, Natalia Morris was third with a time of 13:14.8, and Gabrielle Dos Santos was fourth with a time of 13:37.5. Rounding out the top five was Zoey Savitzky with a time of 15:52.8. Please give Violet Ren a round of applause for running a great race yesterday considering she spent the last two weeks in Japan and unable to train. A special thanks goes to Risha Khanderia and Morgan Politis for helping out at the finish line. Thanks for a great season ladies!

  • The Whitcomb Field Hockey team played Sawyer Middle School In Bolton on Tuesday. The team played strong the entire game. After the first half, the score was 0-0. Marlborough had a few break aways with Maggie Horn, Maggie Fagan, and Victoria Villar. Ava Pascarelli played an excellent game at the center mid position. Madison Leith, Keira Manning, and Molly Cullin did a nice job on the defense. Sophie Berges had 6 saves in the game as goalkeeper. The team plays their last home game on Thursday against Leominster.

  • Yesterday the boys soccer lost to Charlton 2-0, ending their season with a record of 7-2. During each game this season, the team represented themselves, their families, their school, and their community well. A big thank you to Whitcomb students and staff for their support, and the boys are looking forward to a successful season next year.
  • Yesterday the Whitcomb girl’s soccer team braved the fierce wind as they played their last game of the season. The team made terrific passes and plays despite the cold and strong wind. Defenders Carly Bamford, Julianna Noronha and Emily O’Mara made great blocks against Charlton’s aggressive forwards.
    A big thank you to the Whitcomb students, staff and parents for their support during the 2019 soccer season.

    The Boys Cross Country team ran against a tough Gibbons Middle School yesterday. Grant Gamber came in third with a personal best time of 11:05. Kyle Mays, Cole Pavao, Jordon and Jason Bautista all set personal bests in the race.

  • The Girls Cross Country team competed against Gibbons Middle School yesterday. The girls lost 19 to 40. Many of the girls made dramatic improvements on their times on the home course. Leading the way by placing 3rd overall was Alyssa Doucette who 30 seconds off her time. Ella Hobin took off almost 30 seconds off her time. Natalia Morris took off 40 seconds, Gabrielli Dos Santos took off over 6 minutes off her time, Zoey Zavitzky took off almost 50 seconds, Rhea Khanderia took off almost 20 seconds, Laura Oliveira took off 3 minutes, Kathleen Azeevedo took off almost 2 minutes, Juliet Slaney took off 10 seconds, and Morgan Politis took off almost a minute. Layla Harrison had the best finishing kick of the day by sprinting last 400 meters of the race. Serenity Cabrera gritted her way through the race and finished strong. Congrats on running a great meet.

  • On Friday, the boys' cross country team participated in the Ghiloni Cup. Grant Gamber finished second overall for the Panthers with a time of 11:19. Andrew Naim finished in eighth place with a time of 11:47. Declan McCarthy, Riley MacEwen, and Kyle Mays finished in the top 20. The boys will run against Gibbons later this afternoon at the high school.
  • In Akiruno News-Whitcomb students visited an elementary school. The Japanese students performed a traditional fishing dance and they made Origami with 3rd grade classes. The students enjoyed lunch together, participated in a traditional tea ceremony, made their own paper and visited Marlborough Street. It was a very busy day!
  • The Whitcomb girls’ soccer team played their hearts out as they faced off against Chocksett Middle School. Amazing offensive plays were made by Jordyn Laurino and Kaelyn Denee. While Giada Young and Erin Seder demonstrated terrific defensive plays. Bianca Brito, Adelaide Johnson, and Luna Lopez demonstrated great hustle in the midfield.
    Come watch the girls’ soccer team this Thursday as they play their last home game of the season!
  • Yesterday, the boys soccer team defeated Chocksett Middle School 5-0. Goals were scored by Bruno Guimares, Simeo Neto, and Devin Herrera. Isaac Meireles added 2 more goals in the boys 7th win. Kevin Herrera and Chris Krueger combined for the clean sheet. Thursday the boys play Charlton at the high school.

In the second half, midfielder Abby Carroll got the goal off an assist from Maggie Fagan. Sophie Berges was excellent as goalkeeper getting the shut out and 2 saves in the game. The team plays next in Gardner on Thursday.

  • Boys Soccer, meet Coach Masella in boys' locker room at 2:45. From ther,e we will walk to high school to the game.
  • The Girls Cross Country team competed this past Friday against AMSA in the Ghiloni Cup. It was a wet and cold meet but the girls pushed through it. AMSA defeated Whitcomb with a score of 23 to 33. Every single runner that completed the race received a medal. Leading the way in second place was Alyssa Doucette. Coming in behind her was Ella Hobin (5th), Natalia Morris (7th), Gabrielli Dos Santos (8th), Zoey Savitzky (11th), Rhea Khanderia (12th), Laura Oliveira (13th), Morgan Politis (14th), and Juliet Slaney (15th). A special congrats goes to Rhea Khanderia who took a minute off her time from last year's Ghiloni Cup race.
  • Podcast club starts this Thursday, October 17th after school in my room, 446! This is a club for 5th and 6th graders only, so please encourage anyone who is interested to join me after school to learn about podcasts and how to make their own! I will put flyers in your mailboxes so you can hang them up this week.

  • In Akiruno News: Students and Staff landed safely in Tokyo at 6:30 this morning after 16 hours of travel time. As they settle in for the evening (Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of us), students will be preparing to go to their Host Family homes tomorrow and school begins on Tuesday.
  • Art Club permission slips are located outside room 337 for all 5,6,7 and 8th grade students. Art club is on Thursdays after school.
  • The Whitcomb Field Hockey Team played an outstanding game at home on Thursday, October 10th against Shrewsbury. It was a huge improvement over the first time the 2 teams played. The entire team came out strong and never let up the entire game. The Panthers had quite a few opportunities to score including a break away by Olivia Gould and shot across the net by Ava Pascarelli. Emily Berger did a nice job on offense and Emilia Johntson did a nice job on defense. Goalkeeper, Sophie Berges, did an excellent job making 6 saves in the game. The team plays next Tuesday in Bromfield.
  • Yesterday the boys soccer team defeated Central Tree Middle School 6-0. Goals were scored by Bruno Guimares, Isaac Meireles, Marcelo Silva, Gustavo Maximiano, Vinny Conceicao and John Frongillo. In goal, Kevin Herrera and Luiz Silva combined for the clean sheet. Tuesday the boys play Chocksett in a home game.
  • The Whitcomb girls soccer team braved the cold weather yesterday as they played against Central Tree Middle School. Goalies, Betsy Powell and Megan Fanelli made great saves as they worked against the wind. Callie Sibole played big as she pressured the ball in the midfield. While Hadley Haas made a great defensive play during a corner kick.
    The Girls soccer team will meet coach B today in the gymnasium at 2:45. An announcement will be make at the end of the day if practice is canceled.

  • Heritage Language Classes for Portuguese speakers will begin today in the cafeteria.

  • Yesterday the girls soccer team played against Mountview Middle School where they demonstrated amazing teamwork throughout the game. Forwards, Jordyn Laurino, Wendy Aftomis and Abagail Healy advanced the team as they attempted great shots on net. The midfield was held together with effort by Callie Sibole, Sofia Zaloumis and Shayla Ramon.
    Thursday the girls soccer team will travel and faceoff against Central Tree Middle School.
    Today’s soccer practice is canceled due to weather.
  • It was an awesome match up between the Marlborough Field Hockey Team and Melican Middle School on Tuesday afternoon. It was back and forth all game, and both the offense and defense worked hard all game. There was good communication on the field. Forwards Maggie Horn, Maggie Fagan, and Victoria Villar started with a drive into Melican's defensive circle. Ava Pascarelli and Ilie Bender were strong in the mid-field. Keira Manning and Abby Carroll had excellent free hits. Playing exceptionally well on defense were Maria Reyes, Clarissa Cruz Bolanos, Molly Culkin, and Natalie Gulbankian. Getting the shut out for the Panthers was Sophie Berges as goalkeeper. The team will play again at home on Thursday, 10/10 against Shrewsbury.
  • On Friday, please join members of the faculty wearing pink to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many staff members and families have been touched by cancer and many of your families as well. Please join us on Friday bearing witness to our support and care for those who battle the disease and for those who care for them.
  • Yesterday the boys soccer team defeated Mountain View Middle School 3-1. Bruno Guimares netted two goals while Joe Aleman scored a header from a corner kick by Isaac Meireles. Kevin Herrera played well in goal. Thursday the boys travel to Central Tree for an away game.

  • The Whitcomb Field Hockey Team traveled to Doyle Field on Thursday to play Leominster Middle School. The team played an outstanding game. Marlborough scored their first goal in the first half. Juliana Durant, Maggie Horn, and Maggie Fagan worked hard to bring the ball into the circle. Ava Pascarelli took a shot on goal and Olivia Gould tipped it in at post. Marlborough defense, Kiera Manning, Madison Leith, and Natalie Gulbankian, played tough. Sophie Berges had a great game as goalkeeper making 7 saves in the game. The team plays at home on Tuesday against Melican Middle School.

  • Yesterday, the boys soccer team lost to Charlton by the score of 4-3. Issac Meireles scored 2 goals for the Panthers while Bruno Guimares netted one. Next Tuesday the boys travel to Mountainview for an away game.
  • Yesterday, the girls soccer team traveled a long distance to faced off against Charlton Middle School. Despite the outcome the team held their ground and made great plays. Abigail Healy made her presence felt as she went on multiple breakaways and took shots on net. Midfielder, Shayla Ramon broke up attacks and made short and precise passes. While defenders, Erin Seder and Giada Young protected their goalie as they blocked shots.
    Next week the girls’ soccer team will play against Mountview Middle School.

  • The Whitcomb Field Hockey Team dominated the entire first half and most of the second half in their game against Nashoba on Thursday. The Marlborough team had many opportunities to score. Maggie Horn, Juliana Durant, and Abby Carroll had a few nice corners for the Panthers. Maggie Horn and Victoria Villar did a good job on offense. Kiera Manning had a lot of nice free hits in the game.
    Olivia Gould and Emily Martins worked hard at midfield. Getting the shut out for Marlborough were Sophie Bergers and Aline Blanco. The team will play next week at Leominster on Wednesday.
  • Yesterday, the boys soccer team beat Chocksett in Sterling by the score of 5-1. Kevin Herrera and Luiz Silva played well in goal for the Panthers. Bruno Guimares and Joe Aleman scored twice each and Issac Meireles scored one for the victory.
    On Tuesday, the boys travel to Mountainview for an away game.
  • Yesterday, the Whitcomb girls soccer team battled hard in the rain at their first away game.
    Hadley Haas displayed a lot of confidence in her aggressive offensive play. Bianca Brito was a force in the midfield and was often first to the ball.
    The duo of Carly Bamford and Emily O’Mara helped to prevent a near certain goal and made numerous defensive stops.
    On Tuesday, the girls soccer team will travel and face off against Charlton Middle School.
  • The Girls Cross Country team continued its winning ways with a win over Trottier Middle School on Wednesday. Once again, this is the first time ever that Whitcomb has beaten Trottier. The score was 26-29 with the lower number being the winner. Leading the way was Alyssa Doucette who place 2nd overall with a time of 12:39.3. Placing 2nd and 3rd respectively were Ella Hobin and Natalia Morris. Rounding out the top seven for the team was Violet Ren, Zoey Savitzky, Rhea Khanderia, and Juliet Slaney. Working hard together throughout the race was Morgan Politis, Laura Oliveira, and Avery Kelley. Congratulations on a great meet!

  • The field hockey team played an exciting game at home on Tuesday, September 24th against Gardner. Despite the score, the Panthers played very well the entire game. Marlborough dominated the first half with a 0-0 tie at half time. Forwards Maggie Horn, Maggie Fagan and Juliana Durant got the ball down the field and had a few shots on net. Abby Carroll, Olivia Gould, and Ilie Bender played a solid game in the midfield. Kiera Manning, Madison Leith, and Molly Culkin did a nice job as backs keeping the ball on the offensive side. Sophie Berges and Aline Blanco shared the Goal Keeper position. The team plays next at home on Thursday against Nashoba.

    On Thursday, the boys travel to Chocksett for an away game.

  • A large crowd filled the bleachers to watch the Whitcomb girls soccer team play their 3rd game of the season. It was a hard contest with a good performance by Kaelyn Deneen and Sofia Zaloumis showing amazing hustle in the midfield. A stellar performance by Julianna Noronha on defense and an amazing shot on net by Luna Lopez.
    On Thursday, the girls soccer team will travel for their first away game to play against Chocksett Middle School.

  • The Whitcomb Middle School lost a tough meet yesterday vs Melican Middle school. Grant Gamber finished first for Marlborough with a time of 11:42 and Andrew Niam finished second with a time of 12:12. Seventh grader Jonathan Tinglof took almost 4 minutes off his practice time. Nice job boys.
  • Please give a huge round applause to the girls cross country team. The girls beat Melican Middle School for the first time ever in the history of Whitcomb Cross Country. Leading the way was Alyssa Doucette who won the race in a time of 12:51.8. This first place finish is extra special for Alyssa because this her first career cross country race. Coming in 2nd and 3rd were Ella Hobin and Natalia Morris. Rounding out the top seven finishers were Violet Ren, Zoey Savitzky, Rhea Khanderia, and Juliet Slaney. Congratulations on a great start to the season ladies!

Activities will include soccer, basketball, kickball, and other indoor games. Students may take the late bus home or can be picked up on the front side of the building. Get ready to participate! Intramurals will be held on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays. Students participating in any fall sport program at the middle school are unable to participate.   • In the first game of the season, the Whitcomb field hockey team travelled to Shrewsbury Oak Middle School. Despite the score, the tem is off to a good start. Sophie Berges was outstanding as goal keeper making 18 saves in the game. Maggie Horn, Julia Durant, Caitlyn Gray, and Victoria Villar did a nice job on the forward line. Abby Carroll, Oliva Gould, and Emily Martins played well at midfield. Kiera Manning played solid defense with help from backs Clarissa Cruz Bolanos, Madison Leith, Natalie Gulbankian, and Emilia Johnston. The team will play next at home against Bromfield on Thursday.
  • Yesterday the boys soccer team beat Dudley at the high school by the score of 4-2. Kevin Herrera and Luiz Silva played well in goal for the Panthers. Gustavo Maximiano scored twice while Issac Meireles and Luiz Gustavo Bernardes scored one goal each. Come out to root for the boys on Thursday at the high school as we take on Mountainview Middle School at 3:45.

The flags will stay on display for a week. This is an extension of the city program sponsored by the Substance Use Prevention Coalition.
