Marlborough Public Schools interim superintendent gets four-year contract extension

Marlborough, MASS. — The Marlborough School Committee announced that interim Superintendent Jason DeFalco, Ed.D., has received a contract extension through July 1, 2030.

Since joining Marlborough Public Schools in July, Dr. DeFalco has guided the district through meaningful shifts in teaching and learning, operations and overall district strategy.

The School Committee, at its Jan. 13 meeting, unanimously expressed confidence in his leadership and commitment to Marlborough's students, families and staff.

“I am pleased to announce that we have extended interim Superintendent DeFalco’s contract for the next four years. With this extension, he will no longer be interim and will help create consistency with a direction I believe is needed. It also reflects the strong leadership, dedication and results he has demonstrated over the past several months. In a short time, he has shown a steadfast commitment and energy toward strengthening our school system. His dedication to our students, teachers, staff and families is a key reason we are confident and grateful that he will continue to lead the district over the next four years,” said Mayor Christian J. Dumais.

The extension affirms the School Committee's continued support for Dr. DeFalco's strategic direction, including his emphasis on directly supporting students and educators.

“I am deeply honored to continue serving the Marlborough community,” said Dr. DeFalco. “This district is built on a strong foundation and the collective dedication of its staff, students and families. I look forward to working alongside our community to build on that strength and to lead the system forward together.”

Dr. DeFalco has nearly 25 years of experience in public education. Prior to joining Marlborough Public Schools, he served as superintendent of the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District for seven years. He holds a Doctor of Education degree from Johnson & Wales University, a Master of Science in School Leadership and Administration from Worcester State College, and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Sociology from Suffolk University. Originally from Worcester, Dr. DeFalco is also a dedicated father to two sons.
