As we prepare to resume classes and begin a new year, it’s a great time to look back on the amazing journey we've had together. Last year was packed with unforgettable moments and milestones across our district. Before we jump into the exciting events and plans coming our way, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and check out some fun highlights that brought our community closer.

All of our achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of everyone in our district. We’ve shared some incredible memories, and we can’t wait to see what adventures and opportunities 2026 has in store for us!

The Richer School is proud to announce that we recently received an exceptionally generous donation of 55 brand-new pairs of sneakers for students in need. This thoughtful gift was made possible through the efforts of our dedicated bus driver, Paul King, who coordinated the initiative in partnership with our transportation provider, NRT Bus/Beacon Mobility. Their commitment to supporting our students goes beyond transportation, fostering a strong sense of community within our schools.

Thanks to generous donations from our bus drivers and transportation vendor, our students can start a new school day on the right foot.

The evening also included a book fair to encourage our students' love for reading and support literacy. Additionally, students participated in various raffles, with amazing prizes generously donated by our community.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who contributed to our raffles and to the many volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to make this event a success. Educators like Laura Zouharis, an art teacher at Richer Elementary School, play a vital role in nurturing our future leaders and creators.

With encouragement from Ms. Zouharis, student Valeria entered the 2025-26 Annual Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest and won the top prize of $100 in the local competition. This contest prompted students ages 11-13 to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. The theme for this year was “Together As One.” The contest was judged based on three criteria: originality, artistic merit and the expression of the theme.

Valeria, along with her father and Ms. Zouharis, enjoyed a dinner provided by the Marlborough Lions Club, held at the Marlborough Public Library, where she was awarded the prize money and a certificate. Ms. Zouharis was also honored with a certificate for her exemplary teaching.

Congratulations to Valeria and Ms. Zouharis!

On Tuesday, Richer School students had the honor of participating in the Marlborough District Court's Cultural Appreciation Day.

Every year, courts across the state celebrate Cultural Appreciation Week. For the past few years, the Marlborough Court has recognized this occasion by collecting and showcasing student artwork that embodies their perspectives on cultural diversity and inclusion. This year, the Marlborough Court was designated as a signature court. Marlborough Probation Officer and cultural champion Ashley Losapio invited Richer students to not only display their artwork but also perform at the celebration, which focused on the theme "Access and Justice: We All Stand Together."

We extend our gratitude to Judge Meghan Spring and Senator Eldridge for answering questions from our curious students, and we appreciate the entire court staff for their warm hospitality!

Meet your newest Marlborough School Committee member!

Newly appointed school committee member Chris DeMeo is the son of a career teacher and comes from a family of educators. For Chris, finding and doing what's most important is what life is all about. Not only is he an active parent to a Marlborough Public Schools student, but he also serves as a PTO member and is involved with Marlborough Youth Soccer.

Now, as he takes on this new role on the Marlborough School Committee, his focus will be on ensuring that every Marlborough kid and family is served and educated with enthusiasm, integrity and authenticity, and nothing less. Chris will serve until December 2027, the remainder of the unexpired term left by the untimely passing of Heidi Matthews.
