A huge shoutout goes to Coach Joseph Peltak for their unwavering support and guidance, as well as to our talented student-athletes whose hard work and dedication throughout the season truly shone. Their growth, both on and off the field, has been remarkable this fall!

Educators like Laura Zouharis, an art teacher at Richer Elementary School, play a vital role in nurturing our future leaders and creators.

With encouragement from Ms. Zouharis, student Valeria entered the 2025-26 Annual Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest and won the top prize of $100 in the local competition. This contest prompted students ages 11-13 to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. The theme for this year was “Together As One.” The contest was judged based on three criteria: originality, artistic merit and the expression of the theme.

Valeria, along with her father and Ms. Zouharis, enjoyed a dinner provided by the Marlborough Lions Club, held at the Marlborough Public Library, where she was awarded the prize money and a certificate. Ms. Zouharis was also honored with a certificate for her exemplary teaching.

Congratulations to Valeria and Ms. Zouharis!

On Wednesday, Jaworek Elementary School welcomed families for its parent-teacher conferences. In a heartfelt initiative, the school also opened a pop-up food and personal care pantry, providing a range of essentials, from non-perishable food items to hygiene products, all aimed at uplifting those in need within our community.

Any remaining items will be donated to the Marlborough Community Cupboard, ensuring that they reach even more families who can benefit from them.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated staff at Jaworek for exemplifying the true spirit of what it means to be #MadeInMarlborough.

Our 8th graders toured Marlborough High School over two days in October, getting an exciting sneak peek at the opportunities that await them as they transition from middle school to high school.

During the tour, students made several informative stops throughout the school, where they discovered the career-building programs, unique extracurricular activities and extensive athletic offerings available to them when they #ChooseMHS. At each location, current students and staff shared their experiences, providing valuable insights and guidance on the transition to high school.

These annual tours provide a fantastic opportunity for future high school students to explore the possibilities that lie ahead. A huge thank you to the high school staff and students for hosting such an informative and welcoming experience. The future is bright for our 8th graders!

This Halloween, Mr. Nick's Latin IV class at Marlborough High School transformed into ancient Rome with an unforgettable Roman funeral for a beloved character, Uncle Titus.

MHS Latin students and 8th graders at the Whitcomb School gathered to pay their respects after Uncle Titus met an unfortunate fate, slipping at the baths and breaking his hip. The atmosphere was a mix of reverence and celebration as they held a grand funeral procession complete with a tibicen, filling the air with mournful melodies. Hired mourners and relatives donned imagines (elaborate masks of ancestors), creating an immersive experience of Roman custom. The highlight of the ceremony was Cornelius's poignant laudatio (eulogy), honoring Uncle Titus before his cremation.

Each year, our Latin IV class performs a unique Roman celebration, and after this remarkable event, we can't wait for what they have in store for next year!

This week, we welcomed student delegates from the Akiruno Exchange Program to the City of Marlborough!

The Whitcomb School kicked off this wonderful exchange with a Welcome Assembly, where our talented Japanese exchange students took the stage to showcase their skills. Interim Superintendent Jason DeFalco, Ed.D., also shared inspiring words to embrace the spirit of this cultural journey. Our guests then plunged into an unforgettable experience, exploring our schools, connecting with our amazing students and teachers and discovering the rich tapestry that makes our city so vibrant and unique.

Their visit was a reminder that this exchange program is not just a trip but a remarkable opportunity to learn from one another and celebrate our diverse cultures, traditions and ways of life. We were truly honored to spend this week with our exchange program participants and look forward to many more years of friendship between our cities!

During the 2024-2025 school year, Richer and Jaworek Elementary Schools achieved an impressive 85% participation rate in their free breakfast and lunch program. This success is thanks to our dedicated kitchen staff, who provide delicious and nutritious meals every school day.

All our schools offer free breakfast and lunch to every student. We encourage you to motivate your child to participate so we can reach 100% participation in each building this school year!

On Oct. 21, the Marlborough High School Business & Information Technology Department, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Marlborough, MA, Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, proudly hosted a Reality Fair for MHS juniors.

At the Reality Fair, students received a paycheck based on their chosen career. They made real-life decisions about housing, transportation, utilities, clothing and more by visiting vendors stationed throughout the event. They also faced the "Wheel of Fortune or Misfortune," which simulated unexpected financial twists! This invaluable experience enhanced financial literacy and equipped students with the skills to make smarter financial decisions. Special thanks to Business & Information Technology Teacher Jayne Haley for organizing this impactful event.

Our student representatives from Whitcomb Middle School have safely returned from an incredible cultural exchange with Marlborough's sister city, Akiruno-shi, Tokyo, Japan.

Under the guidance of Advisor Jen Smith, Co-advisor Andrew Thain and Teaching Assistant Andreia Pontes, student delegates — Logan H., Wyatt B., Lucy L., Brooke K., and Benjamin S. — lived with host families and experienced everyday life in Japan.

From practicing the language and enjoying authentic cuisine to learning local customs and participating in school, their days were filled with unforgettable cultural experiences such as a city tour of Akiruno, traditional paper-making and relaxing at the local hot springs — a true immersion into Japanese tradition and hospitality. They were also recognized by the mayor as honorary citizens of Akiruno.

If you are a Whitcomb family interested in participating in this program or would like more information about what it entails, tune in to the Oct. 28 Marlborough School Committee meeting at 7:30 p.m., livestreamed at www.wmct-tv.com, where advisor Jen Smith and students will present on the exchange program.

Celebrated in October, International White Cane Day celebrates the achievements of people who are blind and visually impaired and reminds people that the white cane is an essential tool for independence.

Marlborough Public Schools is proud to recognize our students who use long canes and our vision/braille paraprofessionals, such as Paraprofessional Andreia Pontes, who celebrated White Cane Day with student Benjamin S. for the eighth year in a row.

On Tuesday, Richer School students had the honor of participating in the Marlborough District Court's Cultural Appreciation Day.

Every year, courts across the state celebrate Cultural Appreciation Week. For the past few years, the Marlborough Court has recognized this occasion by collecting and showcasing student artwork that embodies their perspectives on cultural diversity and inclusion. This year, the Marlborough Court was designated as a signature court. Marlborough Probation Officer and cultural champion Ashley Losapio invited Richer students to not only display their artwork but also perform at the celebration, which focused on the theme "Access and Justice: We All Stand Together."

We extend our gratitude to Judge Meghan Spring and Senator Eldridge for answering questions from our curious students, and we appreciate the entire court staff for their warm hospitality!
